Freue mich schon auf tolle WeltraumabenteuerI wasn't a backer (didn't learn of this game until it was already too late), but I signed for the beta, and have been beta testing the crap out of this game since September.
Anyway, I was playing yesterday. Picked a hauling mission (I have a pimped Viper), and payed very, VERY well for just 2 containers (around 12k). So, I took the mission and flew to the target system. As soon as I jump out of hyperspace, I start heading towards the station where I'm supposed to deliver the cargo. Suddenly, I start getting interdicted. I was able to shake it, but it was very hard to get away. Few seconds later, another interdiction. What the...? This time, I can't shake it, and I'm dragged into impulse speed.
"You're hauling cargo for the scum of the galaxy" said the NPC (or something like that, can't remember the exact words). Of course, I deploy my hardpoints. Ain't no bloody way this guy is getting between me and my12k credits. As soon as I'm about to start shooting, the NPC continues talking.
"I'll give you a chance of redemption".
A warning appears on my screen. I suddenly had a new objective. The NPC then flies away, leaving me totally confused. This has never happened before. So, I open the Transactions tab, and I see that the hauling mission has an alternative destination. And it's offering 18k to deliver the cargo somewhere else. Hell, 18k? I'd deliver my mom to slavers for 18k! So, I go ahead and deliver the cargo to the alternative station. Cha-ching! I'm 18k richer. All cool, right?
No. Couldn't be further away from cool. Turns out that doing the alternative pretty much pissed off a good portion of the system. How could I tell? Well, because as soon as I left the station with my 18k credits, I get interdicted. Twice. And by 3 cobras. Now, those guys had Dangerous status. They said something, but I couldn't read what it was because two seconds later I lost half of my shields in a moment. I boost the hell out of there like my mom had somehow escaped the slavers I sold her to and was after my ass (phrasing...). If vipers have something, it's their speed. But Cobras have enough hardpoints to crap on anything, and just like that, I see 6 missiles coming my way. Chaff launcher is almost out of ammo (kids, remember to always replenish your ammo at the station!), but was able to dodge them. Can't jump to hyperspace because of mass lock, and leaving it charging is heating up my ship like crazy (around 160% heat). More missiles incoming, and I'm completely out of chaff launcher ammo. I brace for impact, and boom... shields down, and hull down at 60%. These are some VERY angry cobras, they're approaching fast and in a matter of seconds they will be in radar range. So, what do I do? I pull the craziest shit I've ever tried. I disabled all my subsystems, including life support, turn off my lights, turn flight assist off so that I keep the inertia without using engines, turn on silent running and blow as many heat sinkers as I can before the cobras get too close. Temperature drops to 20%, and I start drifting away while the missiles impact the heat sinkers (hadn't thought of that... they're heat seeking, and the sinkers are super hot compared to my silent running ship). I see the cobras approaching, but they're not firing anymore. They're just... there. And I'm getting further and further away (god bless inertia and Isaac Newton). After a couple of minutes, I can't see the cobras anymore, so I turn off silent running, power my systems just before my oxygen runs out, and get the hell out of that system.
And as soon as I get to a friendly station, I dock, light a cigarette, and try to make sense of all that just happened. And all I can say is...
I freaking love this game.
